Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting September 19,2013 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
10T. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Florida, Ratifying
the Second Amendment to the Agreement with Harbour Construction, Inc. to Provide
Demolition Services for Gateway Park, in an Amount Not to Exceed $35,750.00,
Attached Hereto as Exhibit "A"; Providing the City Manager with the Authority to Do All
Things Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date.
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Assistant City Manager Bill Evans reported that
this is a cleanup amendment to the original contract to remove a two-inch water line that runs
through the middle of the project. There are two storm drain boxes out there that we can
disconnect from the FDOT system, remove the remaining asphalt that was placed for parking
for a certain amount of time, and remove the rest of the trees.
Public Speakers: None
Vice Mayor Aelion moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion to approve the
resolution. Resolution No. 2013-2117 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
10U. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Approving a
Conceptual Design to Partially Convert the Water Facility Located at 350 Sunny Isles
Boulevard to a Park-Like Setting; Providing the City Manager with the Authority to Do
All Things Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date.
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and City Manager Russo reported and presented the
proposed schematic design. Vice Mayor Aelion asked if there was parking, and City
Manager Russo said no. He clarified that the pump station is remaining, what is shown here
that is not part of this. It shows the trees and walkway continuing behind the pump station
section, which is the rectangular piece just prior to Park Towers which is the Milton Project.
The meandering walkway as it gets to that area of the pump station in the parcel just prior to
Park Towers, the path meanders back to the sidewalk, across the sidewalk. What will happen
in your approval of Milton's project, it shows an easement walkway back down to the bay
and then continuing across through St.Tropez to Collins Avenue. What we would like to do
long term but we could not get it now because WASA is a little skeptical even with fencing
to allow people to walk behind the pump station. It would be nice to continue that baywalk
along the bay.
Commissioner Scholl said so they are making us detour around the north side? City Manager
Russo said yes and that was always anticipated, that was in your original approval of the
plan. You approved that same thing to go back from the sidewalk on Milton's property.
Mayor Edelcup said concurrently we can keep trying to get the right-of-way along the water
edge, and when we get it you can then put it in.
Public Speakers: None
Commissioner Scholl moved and Vice Mayor Aelion seconded a motion to approve the
resolution. Resolution No. 2013-2118 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
13
