August 18, 2020
Professional Consulting Services
City of Sunny Isles Beach
RFQ No. 20-07-01
Page 15

Project Approach and UnderstandingProject Approach and UnderstandingProject Approach and UnderstandingProject Approach and Understanding

Design MethodologyDesign MethodologyDesign MethodologyDesign Methodology

Our design team, with over 25 years of professional experience, is committed to the
successful implementation of our projects. The combination of the team’s background and
experience as a multidisciplinary team of professionals in stormwater management,
landscape architecture, urban design, planning, transportation, horticulture and biology give
us unique insight into the various elements of a project, allowing us to formulate a unique
vision.

Our general methodology begins with:

1. A thorough understanding of the City of Sunny Isles Beach community and other
stakeholders’ goals for the proposed project, as well as the opportunities for the
surrounding neighborhoods.

2. An analysis of site factors such as:
• Geographic: location, surrounding land use, and historical overlay
• Environmental: soils, adjacent bathymetric elevations, groundwater elevations,
existing vegetation, site contamination
• Infrastructure: drainage capacity, utilities, topographic and roadway elevations,
percentage of pervious area, seawall integrity

3. An analysis of the anticipated project management and maintenance procedures.

Our team’s approach will be to first meet with the City and appropriate stakeholders to
ascertain the goals of the proposed project in detail. Thorough site visits, surveys, and
investigations will assist in determining any potential construction constraints, such as
underground and overhead utilities, soil contamination, environmental resources,
etc. Utilizing the obtained perspectives and regional existing conditions, we will begin the
process of ecological and sustainable project design.

The team will assist the City in conducting stakeholder and public meetings. We have
participated in numerous public workshops to assist in educating the public on specific
studies completed and on various infrastructure projects. We will ensure that technical
information is effectively communicated to the public so that they understand the regulatory
process and that the project in consideration has avoided and minimized impacts to the
surrounding neighborhood and/or resources. Presentations, formatted to be in-person or
virtual, will be prepared with appropriate graphics to illustrate the project purpose and
anticipated permitting/design process. Coastal Systems will respond to technical questions
