D-24
RFQ 20-10-01 Professional Engineering and Architectural Services for Pedestrian Bridge with Park Elements Across A1A at 174th St. CCNA D
Driving the Team’s design proposal are the following key factors:
Building from Local “Know-How”
The bridge’s structure and adjoining elements are made of concrete - a material that South Florida specializes in, and has local
experience using and installing. Adapting a design to a place’s local industry, knowledge base, and experience not only reduces
project costs, but also ensures fewer complications during the manufacturing and construction processes. The use of concrete also
eliminates erosion concerns and the need for repainting – which are common issues with steel bridges.
Efficient Engineering
The structural design of the bridge is simple and minimizes ornamentation. Our design employs concrete U-beams and two primary
columns as its base. This base supports box shape concrete girders, a precast deck system, and dependable waterproofing to create
a pragmatic and cost effective design.
Iconic Identity
An iconic bridge can bring a sense of identity and place to the Sunny Isles Beach community. The bridge will not only serve as a crucial
link, but also as a gateway and a landmark for Sunny Isles Beach. This is an incredible opportunity to bring great design into the public
realm. Our bridge design optimizes this opportunity; building from the neighborhood’s surrounding aesthetic, and emphasizing the
incorporation of nature and green with infrastructure. Our proposal to include iconic shade structures atop the bridge is part of this
positive effect. This will allow the bridge to have a greater presence and iconic impact in the area. We have proposed to integrate these
artistic pergolas to provide shade upon the City’s request.
Figure 7: Conceptual Bridge Park with Iconic Shade Structures Alternative 2 – Elevation View 1
Figure 8: Conceptual Bridge Park with Iconic Shade Structures Alternative 2 – Elevation View 2
