ORDINANCE NO. 2022 -5T7 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 6 OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH CODE OF <br />ORDINANCES, TO PROVIDE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A YOUTH ADVISORY <br />COMMITTEE; STATING THE PURPOSE, POWERS, AND DUTIES OF THE <br />COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR MEMBER QUALIFICATIONS; PROVIDING FOR <br />REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, many municipalities use youth councils to inject fresh ideas and youth <br />perspectives into local decision-making; and <br />WHEREAS, youth councils can promote community service and foster a better <br />understanding among young people of how municipal government works; and <br />WHEREAS, youth councils are an excellent means of promoting regular and active civic <br />engagement among young people, which is vitally important to provide the knowledge, skills <br />and abilities to the next generation of local leaders; and <br />WHEREAS, in furtherance of the City of Sunny Isles Beach's ("City") efforts to provide the <br />City's youth with opportunities to participate in the City's decision-making process, the City <br />wishes to create a Youth Advisory Committee that shall make non-binding recommendations <br />relating to matters affecting youth in the community; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 74-8, of the Code of Ordinances ("Code") for the City provides that <br />there may be such standing committees of the City Commission as the Mayor or City Commission <br />deems necessary to conduct the business of the City appropriately and in accordance with the <br />City Charter; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 74-8 of the Code further sets forth procedures governing standing <br />committees, including the selection of members, the application process, voting requirements, <br />the role and authority of committee members, and meeting schedules; and <br />WHEREAS, Section C -4.3(a)(1) of the City Charter provides that the establishment, <br />altering, or abolishment of a City board shall be by ordinance; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission believes it is in the best interest of the City to establish a <br />Youth Advisory Committee. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br />BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:' <br />1 Additions to existing text are shown by underline, changes to existing text on second reading are shown by <br />double underline, and deletions are shown as stFikethFOUgh. <br />145 <br />@BCL@CC0FIFD1.docx Page 1 of 4 <br />
