RESOLUTION NO. 2023- ?(c✓ <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE STATE OF ISRAEL AND CONDEMNING THE <br />UNPROVOKED AND UNJUSTIFIED WAR LAUNCHED BY HAMAS TERRORISTS <br />AGAINST THE STATE OF ISRAEL; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT <br />CERTIFIED COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO <br />DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, early Saturday morning, October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists, the terrorist <br />organization that controls Gaza, launched an unprovoked and unjustified war on the State of <br />Israel by air, land, and sea, including thousands of missiles; and <br />WHEREAS, the United States and European Union have designated Hamas a terrorist <br />organization because of its armed resistance against the State of Israel, which has included <br />suicide bombings and rocket attacks; and <br />WHEREAS, the large-scale surprise attacks by Hamas and the atrocities and war crimes <br />committed by these terrorists represent the most dangerous escalation in the Israeli— <br />Palestinian conflict in decades and comes almost exactly 50 years after the Yom Kippur War <br />against the State of Israel in 1973, when the State of Israel was similarly taken by surprise in a <br />sudden attack by neighboring Egypt and Syria; and <br />WHEREAS, on October 7, 2023, the Hamas terrorist organization sent terrorists through <br />the security barrier into southern Israel, slaughtering innocent civilians and abducting many of <br />them as hostages, including women, children, babies, and the elderly, according to Israeli <br />Defense Forces; and <br />WHEREAS, Hamas terrorists also launched thousands of missiles into southern and <br />central Israel; and <br />WHEREAS, according to Israeli Defense Forces, more than 1200 people were killed and <br />over 2,500 injured in the State of Israel from Hamas' massive surprise assault, including <br />innocent women, children, babies, and the elderly; and <br />WHEREAS, at least twenty-two (22) American citizens in the State of Israel are among <br />those killed by Hamas terrorists, confirmed by officials from the U.S. State Department and the <br />National Security Council; and <br />WHEREAS, there are still a number of unaccounted-for Americans that the State <br />Department is working with is Israeli partners to help find; and <br />WHEREAS, early Sunday, October 8, 2023, Israeli forces were still fighting to regain <br />control of eight areas of the country's territory from Hamas terrorists; and <br />@BCL@F40B86CF.doc Page 1 of 3 <br />
