WHEREAS, the death tolls are expected to rise significantly as the State of Israel formally <br />declared war on Hamas on October 8, 2023, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu predicted <br />a "long and difficult war;" and <br />WHEREAS, the acts of terrorism committed by Hamas against the State of Israel <br />threatens global peace and security; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission supports the State of Israel as it protects its citizens <br />from the heinous crimes committed by Hamas terrorists; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the unique and special relationship and deep <br />connection that the State of Florida in general, and South Florida in particular, has with the <br />State of Israel; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission supports the safety of Jews wherever they are and <br />supports the protection of the State of Israel; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission supports the State of Israel as it defends itself against <br />the barbaric war launched by Hamas; and calls the World to do the same; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission condemns Hamas' brutal war on the State of Israel. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Expressing Support for the State of Israel. The City Commission hereby supports <br />Israel and condemns the unprovoked and unjustified war launched by Hamas terrorists against <br />Israel. <br />Section 2. Expressing Support of Current and Future State Legislation. The City Commission <br />hereby supports any current and future state legislation which supports Israel and Holocaust <br />survivors. <br />Section 3. Directive to the City Clerk. The City Commission directs the City Clerk to transmit <br />a certified copy of this Resolution to Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Jason Pizzo, State <br />Representative Fabian Basabe, members of the Florida League of Cities, and the City lobbyist <br />Ron L. Book. <br />Section 4. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all <br />things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br />Section 5. Effective Date.
