CM A R fo R G ov e RnMen t C en t e R A nn e x At 1 8 0 8 0 C ol l i n s A ve n u e | R eq u e s t fo R quAli f i CA ti o n s | no. 1 5 - 0 8 - 0 2 8Construction with a Personal Touch PROJECT APPROACH & UNDERSTANDING EXAMPLES OF MCM’S ABILITY TO MINIMIZE DISRUPTIONS MCM’s ability to minimize business operations is tried and test- ed from the successful completion of such projects as the FIU North Stadium Expansion, Aventura Government Center Park- ing Garage, Jackson Memorial Hospital North Parking Garage and the multitude of projects completed in occupied facilities at Miami International Airport and for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Below you will find two project examples where MCM’s approach to partnering with the owner resulted in minimal inter- ruptions to business operations: On the Miami International Airport North Terminal Im- provements project, MCM and the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) worked diligently to ensure that the project would be delivered on-time, and that business op- erations, along with over 107,000 daily passengers, were minimally impacted. From weekly field progress walk-throughs to bi-weekly scheduling/strategy meetings, MCM and the Miami Aviation Department worked as one to ensure the facility’s con- tinued operations, as well as the project’s overall schedule were not impacted. One strategy adopted by MCM and MDAD to accomplish this was to plan and execute a Phased Terminal Opening that al- lowed turn-over of one project area (approximately 23,000 SF) a full 30 days ahead of the originally scheduled milestone, and separate of the project’s overall turn-over. This was achieved by coordinating with the fire department, building depart- ment, airport operations, and subcontractors, minimizing impacts upon the terminal’s ongoing operations, and fa- cilitating the project’s overall progress. At the Miami Senior High School (MSH) project, MCM worked closely with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) and the school staff for four years to execute a comprehensive phased renovation of this occupied high school. MCM coordinated with the owner and school almost daily to ensure that the over 4000 students and faculty occupying the facility were not impacted by construction. By pre-planning with MDCPS and MSH for every phase of construction, and using techniques such as the construction of demising walls, temporary classroom facilities and covered walkways for safe passage through con- struction zones, MCM, MDCPS and MSH were able to deliver this project on time, below budget, and with minimal interruption to daily business operations.
