Labeling Legend: Permanent, waterproof listing of panel and circuit number or <br /> equivalent. <br /> <br />I. Paths of Underground Electrical Lines: During trench backfilling, for exterior underground <br />power, control, signal, and communication lines, install continuous underground plastic line <br />marker located directly above line at 6 to 8 inches below finished grade. Where width of mul- <br />tiple lines installed in a common trench or concrete envelope does not exceed 16 inches overall, <br />use a single line marker. Limit use of line markers to direct-buried cables. Install line marker for <br />underground wiring, both direct-buried cables and cables in raceway. <br /> <br />J. Secondary Service, Feeder, and Branch-Circuit Conductors: Color-code throughout the sec- <br />ondary electrical system. <br />1. Color-code 208/120-V system as follows: <br />a. Phase A: Black. <br />b. Phase B: Red. <br />c. Phase C: Blue. <br />d. Neutral: White. <br />e. Ground: Green. <br />2. Color-code 480/277-V system as follows: <br />a. Phase A: Yellow. <br />b. Phase B: Brown. <br />c. Phase C: Orange. <br />d. Neutral: White with a colored stripe or gray. <br />e. Ground: Green. <br />3. Factory apply color the entire length of conductors, except the following field- <br /> applied, color-coding methods may be used instead of factory-coded wire for sizes <br /> larger than No. 10 AWG: <br />a. Colored, pressure-sensitive plastic tape in half-lapped turns for a distance of <br /> 6 inches from terminal points and in boxes where splices or taps are made. <br /> Apply last two turns of tape with no tension to prevent possible unwinding. <br /> Use 1-inch- wide tape in colors specified. Adjust tape bands to avoid <br /> obscure ing cable identification markings. <br />b. Colored cable ties applied in groups of three ties of specified color to each <br /> wire at each terminal or splice point starting 3 inches from the terminal and <br /> spaced 3 inches apart. Apply with a special tool or pliers, tighten to a snug <br /> fit, and cut off excess length. <br /> <br />K. Power-Circuit Identification: Metal tags or aluminum, wraparound marker bands for <br />cables, feeders, and power circuits in vaults, pull and junction boxes, manholes, and <br />switchboard rooms. <br />1. Legend: 1/4-inch- steel letter and number stamping or embossing with legend <br /> corresponding to indicate circuit designations. <br />2. Tag Fasteners: Nylon cable ties. <br />3. Band Fasteners: Integral ears. <br /> <br />L. Apply identification to conductors as follows: <br />1. Conductors to Be Extended in the Future: Indicate source and circuit numbers. <br />2. Multiple Power or Lighting Circuits in the Same Enclosure: Identify each conductor <br /> with source, voltage, circuit number, and phase. Use color-coding to identify circuits' <br /> voltage and phase.
