A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Approving <br /> an In-Kind Donation to the North Miami Beach Little League in an Amount Not to <br /> Exceed $5,500.00 for Use of the Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field to Provide a Recreational <br /> Baseball Program;Authorizing the City Manager To Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate <br /> this Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action:City Clerk Hines read the title,and Cultural and Community Services Director Susan <br /> Simpson reported this is our annual request to permit NMB Little League to use the Pelican <br /> Community Park Baseball Field for their program, free of charge. <br /> Public Speakers: None <br /> Mayor Scholl asked what are the hours they use the field? Ms. Simpson said it varies but it <br /> is big on Sunday,and on Monday through Thursday from 6:30 p.m.to 9:00 p.m.it is used for <br /> practice only. Commissioner Aelion noted that it is now a Tri-City event with North Miami <br /> Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, and now Aventura. <br /> Commissioner Aelion moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion to approve the <br /> resolution. Resolution No. 2016-2528 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor. <br /> 10M. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Authorizing a <br /> Charitable Contribution to the Sunny Isles Beach K-8 Trust Fund for the Florida <br /> International University (FIU) First Generation College Scholarship Program, in an <br /> Amount of $5,000.00; Authorizing the City Manager to Do All Things Necessary to <br /> Effectuate this Resolution: Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action:City Clerk Hines read the title,and Cultural and Community Services Director Susan <br /> Simpson reported noting it is a need-based grant scholarship,they each get$1,000, and our <br /> $5,000 donation is matched federally by 100% bringing it to $10,000 for ten (10) students. <br /> Public Speakers: None <br /> Commissioner Goldman moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion to approve <br /> the resolution. Resolution No. 2016-2529 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor. <br /> 10N. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Naming the <br /> Botanical Garden at the South End of Senator Gwen Margolis Park as the "City <br /> Commissioner Lila Kauffman Botanical Garden"; and Naming North Bay Road <br /> Between 174 Street and 178 Street as "City Commissioner Connie Morrow Lane"; <br /> Authorizing the City Manager to Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution; <br /> Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and City Manager Russo read the report into the <br /> record. The first elected Commission of the City in 1997 included two (2) pioneering <br /> women, Lila Kauffman and Connie Morrow. Lila served on the Commission from 1997 to <br /> 2003,and Connie served on the Commission from 1997 to 2001. Both were vocal activists <br /> for progress and they saw the beauty and potential of what Sunny Isles Beach could be and <br /> paved the way for the Sunny Isles Beach of today. It is appropriate and fitting to name a <br /> 10 <br />
