Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting February 18,2016 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
as much as possible,we are negotiating requiring them to use these air backup alarms instead
of the buzzers which is a blast of air. Commissioner Goldman said you will be able to
broadcast so the whole City will be apprised of this project going on. City Manager Russo
said we are going to get it out everywhere that we can: We are also going to have a meeting
for anyone that wants to come and get more details on it.
Mayor Scholl said the work will be done at night, and they are going to turn the beepers off
in the backup equipment, and try to mitigate it. There is no easy way of doing this one but
once it is done it is done and the City will be better because of it. It mitigates our hurricane
exposure, and beautifies Collins Avenue. Vice Mayor Gatto said this will affect bus lanes
during the day because there will be trenches, correct? City Manager Russo said no, they
will just do what they can accomplish and then cover up each night, and all the lanes will be
open. They are not working on weekend nights, they will work from Sunday night through
Thursday night. Mayor Scholl said to the staffs credit,he thinks they have built in as many
practical considerations as they can build in. At the end of the day we have got to build a big
trench from one end of the City to the other and put in the conduit.
Commissioner Aelion said also something to think about is coordination when we have
special events that may fall into the evening hours which may coincide with the blockage of
the road, for the residents to be aware of this. City Manager Russo said that could very well
happen but hopefully the timing of where they are, and we will look at that too for the
schedule. Ms. Linton-Dorsett said the general intent is that we will have constant
communication with residents, we have posted on the City website so they are constantly
appraised,we use email blast so we have been utilizing technology to keep residents aware.
Vice Mayor Gatto said because it is Collins Avenue it is bigger than the City, you are talking
about our neighbors north and south of us at minimum, and so we may have to do a broader
communication. Mayor Scholl said yes, and that is where most of the traffic comes from.
Commissioner Aelion moved and Commissioner Goldman seconded a motion to approve
the resolution.
