Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting June 16,2016 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
negotiate them and get them down very rapidly and quickly. There is the authority, if it be
necessary, that it could actually be settled for less than the 15%.
Vice Mayor Gatto said is this looking into a discount from 25% to 15%? Commissioner
Goldman said yes with added discretion. The idea is to get the violations settled and off,and
getting people to comply. Vice Mayor Gatto said it is a great idea. Mayor Scholl agreed as he
gets calls a lot of times from people that didn't comply, were confused about complying.
Then the fines start to rack up and before you know it you have got a$20,000 - $30,000 fine
against your property. He thinks Commissioner Goldman's idea is a good one and it will
create public awareness as well. If it works on a temporary basis we will see if we give staff
the discretion on a more permanent basis in the future.
Commissioner Levin moved and Vice Mayor Gatto seconded a motion to approve the
resolution. Resolution No. 2016-2562 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
10D. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Accepting a
Financial Donation from RK Associates to Support the City's 19th Anniversary
Celebration on Sunday; Authorizing the City Manager to Do All things Necessary to
Effectuate this Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date.
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and City Manager Russo thanked RK Associates.
The team they have there is probably the best team that he has worked with in the 16 years
that he has known their organization, Danny and Ranaan Katz. The cooperation and the
approach that we have taken with each other he believes has just led to a much greater
understanding and ability to get things done. They are a major property owner, they have a
hundred-fold the types of issues that we would have with normal code issues on other
properties. He thinks this contribution is an example of their way to say they appreciate the
cooperation.
Public Speakers: None
Vice Mayor Gatto moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion to approve the
resolution. Resolution No. 2016-2563 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor.
10E. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida,Approving
Amended Guidelines for Sunny Isles Beach Social Seniors Events, Inc. for Financial
Contributions and Related Matters;Providing the City Manager with the Authority to Do
All Things Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date.
Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and City Manager Russo reported that this is a
resolution amending the previous resolution with the conditions that the Commission had set
forth for their$10,000 contribution which is a major funding source for the Social Seniors,
Not-for-Profit 501(c)(3)organization. The first two paragraphs is some history,we had some
concerns regarding their last quarterly report which led to us doing a full review. He said he
and the Mayor and the Finance Director had a meeting with the President and their
Accountant and this is the resulting changes to the Resolution. For the record he read the
conditions:
6
