CHIEF FRED MAAS io Jfl
TO: The Commission, City Manager, and
Mayor of Sunny Isles Beach
DATE September 30, 1999
REF: Forfeiture Expenditures
The State Forfeiture monies that we are compelled to spend,
FSS 932.7055, are 15% of our total intake of funding this fiscal
period. Our intake was $121,789.00 therefore our required
spending is $18,268.35 for last fiscal year.
I am recommending that we utilize that money in the following
areas:
1. $10,000 to the Crime Prevention Program for the
purchase of T-Shirts, Hats, brochures, and other
awareness items for the public.
2. $3,500 for the purchase of a display board to utilize
during training, meetings of the city and police
department to increase crime prevention awareness for
the public.
3. $4768.35 for boating equipment, i.e.: lights, siren, etc,
to increase the visibility of our police boat thereby
preventing crimes against persons and property via the
water which surrounds our city.
I certify that the above expenditures meet the criteria set forth
in Florida State Statute 932.7055. In our 15% required
spending we have specifically targeted the guidelines for crime
prevention and feel our request meets the intent of the
Statute.
Sincerely,
FRED MAAS
Chief of Police
ADMIN9943
