One Regular Full-time Appointment Vacancy <br />. Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,385/Bi-wkly -- $6,923/Bi-wkly, DOQ <br /> <br />DEFINITION: <br /> <br />The City Attorney serves as chief legal advisor to the Mayor, City Commission, and City Manager and is <br />responsible for the legal affairs of the City; directs, prosecutes and defends all litigation to which the City is a <br />party; drafts and implements ordinances or resolutions; provides legal advice and direction on contract law, <br />labor and employee relations, intergovernmental/interagency and private industry relations, and land use <br />development; and directs Office of the City Attorney staff and outside counsel. In consultation with elected <br />officials and chief administrative officer, the City Attorney determines and carries out legal strategies to <br />further the mission and goals of the City. <br /> <br />EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: <br />Requires J.D.I L.L.B. Ten (10) or more years practicing law strongly desired. Must be a member in good <br />standing with the Florida State Bar. A Florida License is required and certification in local government <br />law is desired. Strong knowledge of law relating to municipalities required. Prosecution knowledge and <br />experience in search and seizure issues, forfeiture and police matters required. Litigation, real estate <br />transactional work, and experience in land use and zoning is required. Ability to represent the interest of <br />one party in working with other stakeholders and opposing parties required. Ability to develop productive <br />relationships with elected officials, staff, commissions, multi-government entities, private companies, <br />news media and utilities desired.
