Dannheisser,City Attorney <br /> DATE: April 14, 2005 <br /> RE: Creation of a Blue-Ribbon Committee to Search for a City Attorney <br /> Recommendation: <br /> It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached Resolution. <br /> Reasons: <br /> The law does not dictate that a search be conducted in any particular way except to abide by the <br /> Sunshine Laws. If a search firm is not retained, then it is good custom and practice that the City <br /> create a blue-ribbon selection committee usually composed of the manager and other qualified <br /> City Attorneys (hereinafter referred to as the `Committee".) After consultation with the Mayor <br /> and City Manager, the following process is recommended to you: <br /> The Mayor is suggesting that the selection committee be composed of three City Attorneys, the <br /> City Manager, and a business person from the community. The City Manager and I, in <br /> consultation with the Mayor, will select the most qualified members. This will involved not only <br /> the best qualification but also availability (and willingness) to work within our time frame. The <br /> Mayor has also requested that I be available for consultation which I will. The process will then <br /> be that an advertisement for the position be placed and/or posted. (This has already been created <br /> by Tom and I and a copy of that advertisement is attached for convenient reference.) <br /> Second, all qualified applicants will submit their resumes to the HR Department. The resumes <br /> will be reviewed and the applicants that meet the minimal qualifications will be passed along by <br /> our Human Resources Director to Committee. Qualified applicants will then be reviewed and <br /> interviewed by the Committee. The Committee will decide their own process but ultimately will <br /> select and rank the most qualified applicants to be recommended to the City Commission. <br />
