For Shrubs and Groundcovers: <br />(1) Depth: <br />(a) 2- and 3-gallon plant material shall receive a minimum <br />of 2" of planting soil mixture beneath the root ball. <br />(b) Plant materials sized I gallon or less, or materials <br />planted 24 inches O.C. or less shall receive a full 12 <br />inches of amended planting soil mix tilled to a minimum <br />depth of 12 inches. <br /> <br />NOTE: All annuals beds shall receive a full 6 inches of <br />amended planting soil mix tilled to a minimum depth of <br />6 inches. <br /> <br />(c) For plants not requiring soil mix the entire bed shall be <br />tilled by mechanical means to a depth of 12 inches. <br />(2) Width or Diameter: <br />(a) All 2- or 3-gallon material shall be placed within a <br />minimum 13-1/2 inch planting hole, and backfilled with <br />the specified planting soil mix. <br />(b) All plant material sized I gallon or less, or material <br />planted 24 inches O.c. or less shall receive complete <br />bed amending. That is excavation of existing soil to a <br />minimum of 12 inches <br /> <br />(Note: 6 inches for all annual beds) below finished soil <br />elevation, backfilling with a minimum 3 inches of <br />planting soil mix, and then tilling with all required <br />amendments to a depth of not less than 12 inches. <br /> <br />(Note: 6 inches for all annual beds. All areas to be <br />amended in such a manner shaH be highlighted on <br />contractor's record drawings. <br />Bring all beds and pits to smooth, even <br />surface conforming to established grades after full <br />settlement has occurred. <br /> <br />NOTE: Amending of and quantities of planting soil mixes <br />as outlined above contingent with existing soil <br />conditions. <br /> <br />B. Planting Beds: <br /> <br />I. Planting beds to a depth of 12 inch topsoil mixture. <br /> <br />2. Bring beds to smooth, even surface conforming to established grades after full <br />settlement has occurred. <br /> <br />3.
