<br />RESOLUTION NO, 2008- J :::2 3 ~ <br />. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING ADDITIONAL <br />CODE ENFORCEMENT STAFF POSITIONS FOR THE <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AND EXTENDING <br />THE AGREEMENT WITH CALVIN, GIORDANO, AND <br />ASSOCIATES FOR A CONTRACT CODE ENFORCEMENT <br />OFFICER; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INCLUDE <br />THESE POSITIONS IN THE CURRENT AND FUTURE BUDGETS, <br />PROVIDED FUNDING IS A V AILABLE; FURTHER AUTHORIZING <br />THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission has publicly stated its desire for increased <br />enforcement and beautification efforts throughout the city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, On November 15,2007, the City Commission approved a pilot program for <br />a contract Code Enforcement Officer to increase enforcement services throughout the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, additionally, an existing employee was temporarily transferred to the <br />Community Development Department to serve as a Code Enforcement Clerk; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as the temporary Code Enforcement Clerk was able to assume the bulk of <br />the clerical duties for the Code Enforcement Division, the code enforcement officers were able to <br />increase the time and energy expended in the field; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, statistics show that the additional staffing has yielded higher percentages of <br />code enforcement activity throughout the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission is pleased with these results and wishes to make said <br />additional staff positions permanent in nature; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, specifically, the City Commission would like to authorize the City Manager <br />to one (1) code enforcement officer position and one (1) code enforcement clerk position <br />permanent positions to the City's Code Enforcement Division; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as such, these positions will be added to the Community Development <br />Department's Code Enforcement Division's Organizational Chart and these positions will be <br />included in the current and future budgets, provided funding is available; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission realizes there will be a transitional period before these <br />staff members can be hired, but wishes the enforcement levels to remain the same; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission is authorizing staff to extend the Agreement with <br />Calvin, Giordano, and Associates for a contract Code Enforcement Officer, for a period of up to <br />ninety (90) days, at a cost of Six Thousand Five Hundred Dollars per month, in the same terms <br />and conditions as previously approved. <br /> <br />R2008- Code Enforcement Organization Amendment <br /> <br />Page lof2 <br />
