A sophisticated computer code (~IODAC) was
used to estimate flow parameters such that the head
distribution matched observation very well.

t\Iodeling reports for SD-24 and FT-ll were submitted.
Building 505 site modeling was performed initially three
years ago and was transferred to Greensville office this
year due to tight schedule.

Clients were satisfied with the modeling results.

Principal Investigator, Hillside 137 stability and
drainage design for Los Alamos National Lab,
823830, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los
Alamos, NM, 01/2001- 12/2003. (I) Evaluation of
major culverts after forest fire. (2) Investigation and
design of the storm \vater drainage system at 137 Hill-
slope to protect the slope from further erosion.

Hydraulic calculations and hydraulic design were
accomplished and reports were drafted and submitted to
L\NL. The structure design was done by Stone and
\'\. ebs ter.

Principal Modeler, Tinker Air Force Base Well
Head Protection Study, Tinker Air Force Base,
Oklahoma City, 02/2003 - 11/2003. Use a 3-D
groundwater model to delineate \vellhead protection
areas in a 3-D perspecti\'e.

The model was well calibrated and the results were far
superior to the pre\'ious ones which \verc based on
EP;\'s early version ofWI-IPA model (two-dimensions)
and overestimated the area dramaticall)"

Principal modeler, Shaw Air Force Base - Fate and
Transport Modeling, Department of Defense,
Sumter, SC, 01/2001- 07/2002. A 3-D grounchvater
and transport model was developed for the Shaw Air
Force Base to e\'aluate different remedial action
alternatives for the CMS (corrective measure study).
The flow model and the transport models were "very
\vell" calibrated based on the investigation information
we had at that time. Doubts \vere raised as to the actual
velocity of the groundwater that allowed TCE to migrate
o\'cr 6000 ft over the past 45 years. The aCluifer test data
did not support this kind of velocity. Later study on
isotopes age revealed that there very likely exists a

SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.

06C122006T

preferential patlnvay in which groundwater was moving
at higher velocity than the surrounding areas.

Draft modeling reports were accomplished and
presentations were made to the clients and the agencies.

SONG KAI YAN, PH.D., P.E.

4
