1 B. Handling <br />1. Conduits subjected to rough handling or usage shall be removed <br />from the premises. <br />2. Exposed runs of conduits shall be installed with runs parallel or <br />perpendicular to walls, structural members or intersections of vertical <br />planes and ceilings, with right angle turns consisting of symmetrical <br />bends or pull boxes as indicated on the Drawings. Bends and offsets <br />shall be avoided where possible. <br />' 07/06 16050 -4 05 -5564 <br />2. Conduits must be kept dry and free of water or debris with approved <br />pipe plugs or caps. Care shall be given that plugs or caps are <br />installed before pouring of concrete. All spare conduits shall remain <br />plugged or capped upon project completion. <br />C. Concrete and Masonry <br />1. Where conduits pass through exterior concrete walls or fittings below <br />grade, the entrances shall be made watertight. This shall be done by <br />providing pipe sleeves in the concrete with one half inch (1/2 ") <br />' <br />minimum clearance around the conduits and caulking with askum <br />and sealant, or by means of conduit entrance seals. <br />2. Where embedded conduits cross expansion joints, furnish and install <br />offset expansion joints or sliding expansion joints. Sliding expansion <br />joints shall be made with straps and clamps. <br />D. Panelboards and Boxes <br />1. Conduits entering panelboards, pull boxes, or outlet boxes shall be <br />secured in place by galvanized locknuts and bushings, one locknut <br />outside and one locknut inside of box with bushing on conduit end. <br />The locknuts shall be tightened against the box without deforming <br />the box. Bushings shall be of the insulating type. <br />E. Bending <br />1. Field conduit bends shall be made with standard tools and <br />equipment manufactured especially for conduit bending. <br />F. Mounting and Concealing <br />1. Conduit runs shall always be concealed in finished spaces and may <br />be exposed in industrial spaces except where indicated on the <br />Drawings. <br />2.
