' ROGER A. ARCHABAL, P.E.
Senior Associate
J
h
EDUCATION
Project Management
Field Investigation Programs
Geotechnical Engineering
University of New Orleans, Master of Science in Civil Engineering ( Geotechnical)
Arizona State University, Bachelor of Science n Civil Engineering
' YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 22
PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION AND CERTIFICATION
Registered Professional Engineer
Active: Florida, Louisiana, and Nevada
Inactive: Arizona, Maryland
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
Mr. Archabal has over twenty years of geotechnical engineering experience and has practiced in
numerous and varied geological regions in the United States and abroad. This includes the states
bordering the Gulf of Mexico, the and region states of Arizona and Nevada and the Northeastern and
Southeastern region states. His international geotechnical experience includes major port facilities in the
Republic of Panama, Chile and Guatemala and roadway/bridge projects in the Virgin Islands. Mr.
Archabal is experienced in all aspects of geotechnical engineering, especially difficult foundations in
coastal environments. He has performed hundreds of geotechnical explorations of varied size and scope
including single story to high rise buildings for residential and commercial developments, earth
structures, retaining walls, marinas, port facilities, large diameter storage tanks, underground utilities,
transmission towers, roadways, airports and bridges.
Mr. Archabal has managed numerous projects covering a wide variety of deep foundation systems
including driven piles, drilled piers, augercast piles and pressure injected footings. He has designed and
executed dozens of pile load tests for ultimate loads of up to 400 tons. The treatise of his master's degree
thesis dealt with the estimation of pile load capacities based on soil properties and load tests.
Mr. Archabal has extensive experience with coastal geotechnical engineering structures including earthen
levees (embankments), piers, relieving platforms, breakwaters, retaining walls and cofferdams. Typical
coastal engineering explorations have covered issues including earth slope stability, foundation support,
geosynthetic slope and base reinforcement, preloading to reduce settlements and improve stability. His
retaining wall experience includes cantilevered and tie back walls as well as concrete gravity walls. He
has also performed geotechnical failure investigations for both earth structures and retaining walls.
Mr. Archabal has experience in and environments of the Southwestern United States, particularly the river
' alluvial basin environments. He has analyzed and designed high capacity shallow foundations (mats and
footings) as well as drilled shafts in this region. He has performed studies on collapsible silts and
expansive clays.
' Mr. Archabal has extensive experience in soil improvement. This includes fill preloading, vertical "wick"
drain systems and time -rate settlement analysis to minimize post - construction settlements, chemical
stabilization to improve the supportive capacity of pavement structures, and geosynthetic reinforcement
for improved load carrying characteristics.
 I
L-;7 LANGAN
NEEFin•G d [NV.•.90NinfMnt SEgVlGES
