<br />Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting <br /> <br />May 15,2008 <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br /> <br />10K. Add-On: <br />A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, Approving <br />an Agreement for Charitable Gift between the City of Sunny Isles Beach and Raanan <br />Katz in the Amount of $525,000.00 and Naming the Gymnasium Located at the Pelican <br />Community Park the "Raanan and Phyllis Katz Sports Center" in Accordance with <br />Exhibit" A" Attached Hereto; Directing the City Manager or Designee to Comply with the <br />Terms and Conditions of the Attached Exhibit "A"; Providing the City Manager and City <br />Attorney with the Authority to Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution; <br />Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> <br />Action: City Manager Szerlag reported that Raanan Katz offered to donate $525,000 to the <br />City to name the gymnasium at Pelican Community Park, as "Raanan and Phyllis Katz Sports <br />Center". It will include the RK logo; $75,000 per year for seven years, with the first two <br />years paid up front; years 3 -7 will be paid in $75,000 increments, and after seven years he <br />can renew it on a yearly basis. He thanked Mr. Katz for making this generous contribution. <br /> <br />City Manager Szerlag proposed that every year a portion of that contribution will go toward <br />any deficit that we have for children whose parents can't afford to send them to summer <br />camp, and the Commission agreed. <br /> <br />Public Speakers: Raanan Katz <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Thaler moved and Commissioner Goodman seconded a motion to approve the <br />resolution. Resolution No. 2008-1271 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor. <br /> <br />11. MOTIONS <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />12. DISCUSSION ITEMS <br /> <br />12A. Discussion/Presentation on Marketing Sunny Isles Beach by the Public Relations Firm of <br />Howard R. Miller Communications. <br />Action: Howard Miller gave a power-point presentation on public relations and marketing <br />activities that Howard R. Miller Communications is holding on behalf of the City of Sunny <br />Isles Beach as well as the Sunny Isles Beach Resort Association. He said what this returns to <br />the City is branding, image publicity and tourism dollars, and so far they have generated 3.5 <br />Million paid media impressions without one penny spent on advertising from marketing and <br />public relations outreach. <br /> <br />Public Speakers: Howard Miller; Isaac Aelion <br /> <br />Mayor Edelcup thanked Howard Miller for an outstanding job of promoting our City. City <br />Manager Szerlag noted that Administrative Services Director Alyce Hanson also helps <br />immensely in that mix of people. Isaac Aelion said the road maps say Sunny Isles, and <br />Howard Miller said it is a slow process but they are correcting the broadcast and the on-line <br />media, they are aware of it and it is part of the education which is a continuing process. <br /> <br />12 <br />
