City Commission Meeting <br />August 5, 1997 <br />COMMISSIONERS, DIRECTOR OF BUILDING AND ZONING AND <br />ZONING APPEALS BOARD "; PROVIDING FOR CONFIRMATION THAT <br />STAFF SERVICES WILL BE PERFORMED BY DADE COUNTY; <br />PROVIDING CHAPTER 33 "ZONING" OF THE DADE COUNTY CODE IS <br />ADOPTED BY THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH; PROVIDING <br />EFFECTIVE DATE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; PROVIDING FOR <br />SEVERABLITY. <br />Vice Mayor Toretsky made a motion adopting the emergency ordinance. The motion <br />was seconded by Mayor Samson. Ordinance 97 -1 was adopted by a unanimous roll call <br />vote. The vote was as follows: Commissioners Iglesias, Kaufman, Morrow, Vice Mayor <br />Turetsky, and Mayor Samson voting Yes. <br />The acting clerk read the following emergency ordinance by title: <br />AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE <br />PURCHASE OF LIABILITY, ERRORS AND OMISSIONS COVERAGE FOR <br />PROTECTION OF THE CITY; MAKING A FINDING OF THE EXISTENCE <br />OF AN EMERGENCY; PROVIDING DETERMINATION OF <br />IMPRACTICABILITY AS TO COMPETITIVE BIDDING; AUTHORIZING <br />THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY AND APPROPRIATE <br />DOCUMENTS TO EFFECTUATE SUCH PURCHASE; AND PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />Commissioner Iglesias made a motion adopting the emergency ordinance. The motion <br />was seconded by Commissioner Morrow. Ordinance 97 -2 was adopted by a unanimous <br />roll call vote. The vote was as follows: Commissioners Iglesias, Kaufman, Morrow, <br />Vice Mayor Turetsky, and Mayor Samson voting Yes. <br />The clerk read the following ordinance, on first reading, by title: <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA IMPLEMENTING THE UTILITY TAX <br />AUTHORIZED BY SECTION 166.231, ET. SEQ., FLORIDA STATUTES, TO <br />LEVY AND IMPOSE UTILITY TAX UPON THE PURCHASE WITHIN THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH OF ELECTRICITY, WATER, METERED <br />GAS, BOTTLED GAS, COAL, FUEL, OIL, AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS <br />SERVICES; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />Commissioner Morrow made a motion adopting the ordinance on first reading. The <br />motion was seconded by Commissioner Kaufman and adopted by a unanimous roll call <br />vote.
