RESOLUTIONS
10A. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida,
Establishing the City of Sunny Isles Beach Proposed Ad Valorem Tax Millage Levy
Rate at 2.8 248€0 Mills per$1,000.00 of Taxable Assessed Value Which is 6.17% 9.13%
More than the"Rolled Back"Rate of 2.6372 Mills, for Fiscal Year 2012/2013; Setting the
Date,Time and Place for the First and Second Public Budget Hearings as Required by Law;
Directing the City Clerk and City Manager to File this Resolution with the Property
Appraiser of Miami-Dade County Pursuant to the Requirements of Florida Statutes and the
Rules and Regulations of the Department of Revenue of the State of Florida;Providing for an
Effective Date.
Action:City Clerk Hines read the title, and Assistant City Manager/Finance Shah reported.
Public Speakers: None
Mayor Edelcup said that we have just conducted a two-day Workshop for our Fiscal Year
2012/2013 Budget, and that he and the Commission are very pleased with the results.Based
on those discussions he is proposing a reduction in our millage rate for 2012/2013 by 3%.
This would reduce our rate from 2.8860 mills to 2.8 mills per$1,000 of assessed value. The
effect of this would be to reduce our City tax levy by approximately $500,000 from our
2011/2012 millage rate and would give that money back to our tax payers. In general, this
would mean that people who are under the Homestead and Save Our Homes provisions
under the State law who would otherwise be looking towards a 3%rise in their taxes, would
now have that increase eliminated by the 3% reduction in our millage rate. Our
Commissioners always acted fiscally responsible and always attempted to share any savings
that we could achieve in our City operations by lowering our tax rate. Given this weak U.S.
economy,he is really pleased that we can bring some tax relief to all the property owners in
Sunny Isles Beach.
Commissioner Aelion asked how it would interface with the presented budget, in other
words, will this not effect the allocated monies? Mayor Edelcup said no, this is actually a
3
