SECTION 02221 <br /> TRENCHING, EXCAVATION, BACKFILLING AND COMPACTING <br /> PART 1 -GENERAL <br /> 1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br /> A. Excavate for all underground piping, including services to buildings. <br /> B. Place and compact granular beds and fills over services to rough-grade elevations. <br /> C. Dewater excavations as required. <br /> D. Provide daily cleanup of site, backfilling of open trenches shall be done as soon as <br /> pipe work is complete. Stored materials shall not block vehicular or pedestrian <br /> traffic. Provide access to adjacent properties, control dust and erosion. <br /> 1.02 RELATED WORK <br /> A. Section 01410: Testing Laboratory Services <br /> 1.03 SITE COMPACTION TESTING <br /> A. Testing of compacted fill materials will be performed in accordance with Section <br /> 01410. <br /> B. If, during progress of work, tests indicate that compacted materials do not meet <br /> specified requirements, remove defective work, replace and retest as directed by the <br /> Engineer. <br /> C. Ensure compacted fills are tested before proceeding with placement of surface <br /> materials. <br /> 1.04 SAMPLES <br /> Not Used. <br /> 1.05 PROTECTION <br /> A. Protect trees, shrubs and lawn areas to receive planting, rock outcropping and other <br /> features remaining as part of final landscaping. <br /> B. Protect bench marks and existing structures, roads, sidewalks, paving and curbs <br /> against damage from vehicular or foot traffic. <br /> C. Protect excavations by shoring, bracing, sheet piling, underpinning, or by other <br /> methods, as required to prevent cave-ins or loose dirt from falling into excavations. <br /> 08/12 02221-1 11-4179 <br />
