D. Underpin or otherwise support adjacent structure(s) which may be damaged by <br /> excavation work. This included service lines and pipe chases. <br /> E. Notify the Engineer of any unexpected subsurface conditions. Discontinue work in <br /> the area until Engineer provides notification to resume work. <br /> F. Prevent washing or piping of soils during dewatering procedures, provide turbidity <br /> control. <br /> G. Saw cut trench edges to protect adjacent concrete and asphalt. <br /> H. Maintain site to prevent erosion or sediment transport from the site. <br /> Keep site dean and orderly, control dust and debris. <br /> PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br /> 2.01 MATERIALS <br /> A. Bed Materials: Approved granular material, minus 1 inch non-cohesive and non- <br /> plastic, free of organic matter compacted to 95% density. A minimum of 4-inches of <br /> bedding material, measured from bottom of bell to natural earth, shall be used. <br /> Bedding material shall support pipe as shown on the drawings. <br /> B. Selected Backfill: After pipe joints have been inspected and given preliminary <br /> approval, and sufficient time has elapsed for setting of joints if necessary, backfilling <br /> shall be performed by hand, together with tampering, until fill has progressed to an <br /> elevation at least one foot above the top to the pipe bell. During this initial stage of <br /> backfilling, approved granular minus 2-inch materials free from lumps, clods, or <br /> muck shall be deposited in layers of approximately 6-inches thick and compacted by <br /> hand or with manually operated machine tampers actuated by compressed air, or <br /> other suitable means. Tamps and machines shall be suitable for the work, and <br /> subject to the approval of the Engineer. <br /> C. Backfill Material: Excavated material, free from roots, muck, organic material, rocks <br /> larger than 4 inches in size, building debris or other deleterious materials. <br /> D. Fill Under Landscaped Areas: Free from alkali, salt, and petroleum products. Use <br /> subsoil excavated from site only if conforming to specified requirements. <br /> PART 3- EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 PREPARATION AND LAYOUT <br /> A. Establish extent of excavation by area and elevation. Designate and identify datum <br /> elevation. <br /> B. Set required lines and levels <br /> C.
