3.02 UTILITIES <br /> A. Before starting excavation, field establish the location and extent of underground <br /> utilities occurring in the work area and have utilities marked in the field. <br /> B. Notify the Engineer if utility lines which are in the way of excavation are uncovered. <br /> C. Protect active utility services uncovered by excavation. <br /> D. Remove abandoned utility service lines from areas of excavation. Cap, plug, or seal <br /> such lines and identify at grade. <br /> E. Accurately locate and record abandoned and active utility lines on project record <br /> documents. <br /> 3.03 TRENCHING <br /> A. Ensure trenching does not interfere with normal 45-degree bearing splay of any <br /> foundation. <br /> B. Excavate in accordance with lines and grades. <br /> C. Cut trenches sufficiently wide to enable proper installation of services and to allow <br /> for inspection. Trim and shape trench bottom and leave free of irregularities, lumps <br /> and projections. Trenching shall comply with Florida and Federal safety <br /> requirements. <br /> D. Do not disturb soil within branch spread of existing trees or shrubs that are to <br /> remain. If it is necessary to excavate through roots, perform work by hand and cut <br /> roots with a sharp axe. <br /> E. When complete, request the Engineer to inspect excavations. Correct unauthorized <br /> excavations as directed, at no cost to Owner. <br /> F. Remove excess or unsuitable excavated sub-soil from site. <br /> G. Saw cut asphalt and concrete before excavation of pavements. <br /> 3.04 DEWATERING <br /> A. Keep trenches dry. Provide necessary equipment including pumps, piping and <br /> temporary drains. <br /> B. Do not discharge drainage water lines into municipal sewers without municipal <br /> approval. Ensure water discharge does not contain silt held in suspension, provide <br /> turbidity control. <br /> C. Direct surface drainage away from excavated areas. <br /> 08/12 02221-3 11-4179 <br />
