City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida
Marine and Coastal Professional Engineering Consulting Services (CCNA) | RFQ No. 18‐02‐01

Aptim Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc.
51
01C032018D

H. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
30. PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REQUESTED BY THE AGENCY. ATTACH ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED.
Coastal Resiliency Planning
APTIM is perfectly suited for climate change vulnerability assessments and planning due to our specialized experience
with database management, GIS, modeling, engineering, planning, outreach and project management. We have several
resiliency projects under our belt and would welcome the opportunity to assist the City of Sunny Isles Beach in
developing adaptation plans that are clear, concise and defensible based on our documented quantifications and digital
procedures.
Resiliency
Although the “resiliency” term has become popular only in recent years, APTIM has been on the front lines of resiliency
since 1984. Our initial projects revolved around constructing beach nourishment projects that mitigated the effects of
coastal destruction caused by sea level rise and tropical storms. In order to design the best beaches and coastal
structures, we have built a team of experts that understand coastal process and the drivers for climate change. Our
experts specialize in sea level rise, storm surge, oceanography, sediment transport, remote sensing, and GIS to name a
few. With a company filled with a diverse set of skills that apply to all facets of coastal change, there was a natural
expansion of services to our clients that include scientific studies that focus on climate change.
We recently completed the Texas Coastal Resiliency project, which compiled and cataloged more than 900 reports that
addressed topics that ranged from emergency response plans to environmental to specific disaster information. An
expansive geodatabase with over 3,000 potentially affected systems were compiled and ranked based on their risk to
climate change.
In 2013, we completed a sustainability master plan for the City of Palm Bay, Florida. The plan focused on the
sustainability of the environment, economy and social equity to support a green economy that reduces energy
consumption and greenhouse gas emission while optimizing service quality to the community. The project involved
energy audits and quantifications of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions from facilities, data centers, vehicles,
transportation infrastructure and park facilities. We also worked with the City to develop sustainable land use policies
and codes for construction.
APTIM has continued to assist the City of New York with preparations of a resiliency vision document along with
housing lighting and energy assessments. The vision document entitled Recover to Resiliency provides a roadmap for
choices, commitments and actions to guide the rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Sandy so that the City’s actions
will pay dividends for the residents and the environment for years to come.
We surveyed 26 sites, 229 buildings and more than 600 apartment units to help the City formulate a plan and obtain
funding to upgrade lighting fixtures at all Housing Authority owned properties. The upgraded lighting will not only
reduce energy consumption but also increase light quality to make sites safer and more inviting for residents and
visitors.
GIS
The GIS team based out of Boca Raton, Florida is responsible for providing a wide range of information management
services and product support to all of our offices. These services include GIS design and deployment, database design,
web server applications, document and record management, mobile data collection support, map development, GIS
training and user manual creation. Our team is experienced with the suite of ESRI’s GIS products and supporting
software applications including Python, Oracle, MS SQL, Javascript API, Visual Studio, Silverlight, FLEX, SDE, .NET, Access
and Microsoft sync technology for wireless field synchronization.
