Page | 12

174th Street
Pedestrian Park Bridge Feasibility Study
Table 2: Weekend Vehicle and Pedestrian Volumes

Studies have demonstrated that pedestrians may use less caution crossing streets with marked
crosswalks as compared to unmarked crosswalks for the following reasons; marked crosswalks
may foster a false sense of security for pedestrians in that they take for granted that motorists
will always yield the right of way to them. It has also been found that marked crosswalks lead
pedestrians to believe drivers will see the lines as well as they do and stop for them. Crash
potential was found to be reduced at some locations where marked crosswalks were removed.

Vehicle and Pedestrian Volumes ‐ Saturday
Collins Avenue Average Day (1)
Hourly Vehicle Volumes
Hour
Begin‐
ning NB SB
Two‐ Way
Total
At 174th
Street
North of
174th
Street
600 352 451 803 7
900 1005 1258 2263 17
1100 1455 1466 2921 124
1200 1575 1634 3209 26
1300 1577 1642 3219 24
1400 1692 1670 3362 86 19
1500 1657 1695 3352 20
1600 1585 1738 3323 110 23
1700 1555 1683 3238 81
1800 1650 1619 3269 50
Single Maximum 20 124 50
Top Two Minimum 18 110 26
Top Three Minimum 15 86 24
Notes: 1) Count day volumes inflated by SF = 1.10 per FDOT
PSFC Report
Pedestrian E‐W Count
(2)
2) Pedestrian counts Saturday, September 29, 2018
Hourly Pedestrian Crossing Volume
Thresholds per FDOT TEM 3.8.5
Counted Pedestrian
Volumes
