Over the years, through milling and <br />resurfacing operations, the asphalt thickness had increased 2-3 times the original maximum design thickness in several locations. Kimley-Horn was retained by Palm Beach County to study improvements to Atlantic Avenue and Turnpike entrance <br />e. <br />intersections. Proposed improvements include the addition of a dedicated westbound to northbound right -turn lane on SR 806/Atlantic Avenue <br />at the northbound entrance to Florida's Turnpike. The turn lane will start east of the existing bridge over LWDD E -2-E Canal. The existing bridge <br />will be widened to accommodate the new turn lane. A second option would include a third westbound land in additional to the right -turn lanes. <br />For the structural component, Kimley-Horn reviewed the existing bridge conditions and bridge crossing requirements of the LWDD E -2-E Canal <br />and impacts of existing utility crossing attachments to the bridge. Our team coordinated with LWDD, owner of the canal; FDOT District Four <br />Structural Office; and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise.
