BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost) <br />Pedestrian Bridge over the "Hillsboro" Canal. This pedestrian bridge is <br />adjacent to the Dixie Highway Bridge and consists of a 215 -foot span using <br />a single composite steel trapezoidal box girder for similar aesthetics. The <br />girder ends were made integral with the large counterfort concrete <br />abutments at each end in order to increase stiffness and reduce vibration. <br />Hand calculations were performed to calculate the fundamental frequency of <br />vibration, and the frequency on the first vertical mode was found to be <br />critical at 3.1 Hz. A 3D FEM using Larsa 4D was developed to <br />independently confirm that the design satisfied the minimum required <br />frequency of 3.0 Hz found in theAASHTO Pedestrian Bridge <br />Specifications. All superstructure, substructure, and foundation elements <br />were modeled. Nonlinear lateral soil springs were computed in FB -Pier and <br />added to the Larsa 4D to complete the model. An Eigenvalue Analysis of the <br />entire structural system was the previously completed calculations. The <br />bridge was designed using LRFD. <br />Project Construction Cost: $2M <br />25.
