Residences by Armani Casa:
Ii
r
Sandro Chia (Italy, bl. 1946)
The Goddess
Bronze
110 x 49 x 39 in.
279.4 x 124.5 x 99.1 cm.
Value:$350,000.00
Sandro Chia studied at the Istituto d'Arte and then at the Accademia di Belle Arti in his native Florence
where he graduated in 1969. In the late 1970s, Chia became part of an art movement knows as the
Transvarguardia, along with other Italian artists of his generation such as Francesco Clemente, Enzo
Cucchi, Nicola de Maria and Mimmo Paladino.Together they rejected Conceptualism and returned to
figurative art and symbolism injecting their works with color, emotion, and movement. The Goddess at
The Residences by Armani Casa is a larger than life heroic figure in bronze. While somewhat abstracted,
the figure still remains a major subject for Chia, whose work is deeply rooted in Italian tradition. Sandro
Chia has exhibited extensively, has had solo exhibitions in major museums such as the Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New York and has been included in major exhibitions such as the biennials of Paris,
Sao Paulo and Venice. In addition, his work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern
Art in New York,The Art Institute of Chicago,The Tate Gallery in London, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art as
well as in numerous private collections throughout the world.
