2.03 PLANTING SOIL MIXES <br />A. Planting soil shall be an evenly blended mixture of 50% "muck ", 25% coarse sand, 15% <br />spaghnum peat moss and 10% sterilized cow manure. Add 2 pounds of fertilizer, <br />specified to each cubic yard of soil and thoroughly mix. Mix shall be suitable for plant <br />growth and free from hard clods, stiff clay, hardpan, gravel, brush, large roots, <br />nematodes, weeds, refuse, or other deleterious material, and of reasonably uniform <br />quality. <br />B. Palms: Planting soil mixture to be placed as backfill around the root balls of all Palms <br />shall consist of a mixture as specified above. <br />Note: Bottom 1/4 of planting pit shall be backfilled with clean, coarse - grained <br />builders sand. <br />C. Trees, Shrubs, and Groundcovers: Planting soil mixture to be placed as backfill around <br />the root balls of all trees, shrubs, and groundcovers shall consist of a mixture of: <br />2/3 clean soil (existing soil from site) <br />1/3 approved Florida Peat <br />D. Sterilize planting soil mixtures to make free of all viable nut grass, and other undesirable <br />weed seeds. <br />E. All planting soil mixes shall be thoroughly blended to form a uniform planting medium <br />suitable for exceptional plant growth. <br />' F. Test PH of existing soil and planting soil mixtures by method acceptable to current <br />industry standards. If pH is not between 6.0 and 7.0 add approved soil <br />conditioner /additive to bring PH within that range. <br />G. Supply complete information on all analysis /test methodologies and results; laboratory <br />certifications, manufacturer's specifications, and agency approvals to Landscape <br />Architect prior to placement of soil mixtures. In addition, provide Landscape Architect <br />with thoroughly mixed sample of all soil mixes for approval prior to placement (note PH <br />ranges). Landscape Contractor shall make all modification and improvement to soil <br />mixes deemed necessary by Landscape Architect to meet requirements herein, and to <br />' ensure proper growing medium for all plant material without cost to Owner, prior to <br />planting. <br />1 12/04 02484 -4 04 -4801 <br />H. Water: Free or substances harmful to growth of plants. Water shall also be free of <br />staining agents as well as elements causing odors. <br />fI. <br />Soil Sterilizers: As recommended by State and Local Agriculture agencies. <br />J.
