PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />' 3.01 INSPECTIONS <br />A. Examine areas to receive soil preparation to assure work of other trades has been <br />completed. <br />B. Verify that plants to remain undisturbed have been clearly identified and protected from <br />injury during construction. If not, identify and protect plants to remain according to <br />procedures set forth in Section 02490 - Trees, Plants and Groundcover. Refer to <br />Protective Fencing on plans. <br />C. Remove all construction materials and debris from all areas to be landscaped, without <br />additional expense to Owner, prior to subsoil preparation. <br />D. Do not proceed with soil preparation until all unsatisfactory conditions are corrected. <br />3.02 SITE PREPARATION <br />A. General: Within the entire area to be landscaped as shown on the drawings, the <br />contractor shall complete the following site topsoil preparation items to eradicate all <br />' existing weed and /or natural groundcover. Initiate site topsoil preparation as stated <br />herein and coordinate all work with the existing underground sprinkler system and <br />electrical lines. <br />' B. Post Emergence Herbicide: Apply "Roundup" as manufactured by Monsanto Corp. <br />according to manufacturer's recommended rate and specification within the limits of all <br />areas to be landscaped not specified as existing, to be relocated, or to be removed. <br />' Protect existing plants from overspray. <br />C. Pre - Emergence Herbicide: Apply "Ron- Star" or approved equal to all areas to be <br />' landscaped according to the manufacturer's recommended rate and specification. <br />Contractor shall be responsible to re -apply appropriate herbicide to eradicate all <br />remaining weeds and maintain a weed -free condition in all areas throughout all <br />landscape planting operations. <br />3.03 PERFORMANCE <br />' A. Subsoil: Remove all debris, gravel, rocks and other deleterious material over 2 inches in <br />diameter, within 12 inches of surface in areas to receive topsoil mixture, from the project <br />site. Fine grade subsoil to assure finish grades are achieved by adding the specified <br />depth of topsoil mixture. <br />B. Soil mixtures: <br />1. Remove rocks and other objects over 1 inch diameter. <br />2. Smooth soil mixtures to four (4) inches below top of surrounding paving, <br />' wherever planting beds abut paved surfaces. <br />3. Do not compact planting soil mixture, but do wet -soak planting areas to assure <br />proper settlement. Replace topsoil /planting soil mixture to specified grade after <br />watering, where necessary. <br />1 12/04 02484 -5 04 -4801 <br />
