Locate construction joints as indicated. Joints shall be located so as not to <br />impair the strength and appearance of the work. Where a location for a <br />construction joint must be selected, locate it, where possible, at a rusticated <br />joint line in the concrete. <br />B. After the pour has been completed to the construction joint, and before <br />placing fresh concrete, clean reinforcing steel and the surfaces of horizontal <br />and vertical construction joints of surface laitance, curing compound, and <br />other materials foreign to the concrete. Surfaces of horizontal construction <br />joints, where expansion joint fillers or bond breaking compound is to be <br />placed as indicated, shall be cleaned of dirt, sawdust, and other loose <br />materials. Moisten surfaces on which concrete is to be placed immediately <br />before placing concrete. <br />C. When it is necessary to make a construction joint because of an <br />emergency, furnish and place additional reinforcing steel across the joint at <br />no additional expense to DCAD. <br />D. When new concrete is shown to be joined to existing concrete by means of <br />bar reinforcing steel dowels mortared in holes drilled in the existing <br />concrete, the holes shall be drilled to the required depth, blown out, wetted <br />07106 03300 -13 05 -5564 <br />
