CRISTINA M. GONZALEZ, P.E.
preload layouts and asbuilts, preload design and settlement analysis, tower monitorings, seawall
inspections, backfill testing and inspections, plus more.
Bal Harbour Tower, Bal Harbour, FL -A 28 -story tower on the beach. Involved with the evaluation and
' design of this Oceanfront tower and garage high capacity augercast pile foundations socketed in a
limestone formation characterized with weak, weathered pockets. Supervised and inspected the
installation of the test piles and production piles, making on -site determinations of the pile tip elevation
' on a pile -by -pile basis. Closely interacted with the design team since the foundation design was still
underway during the production pile installation.
Turnberry, Aventura, FL - Geotechnical investigation, load tests, inspection, foundation evaluation and
' design, and project management for various Turnberry projects including office tower and garage, two
midrise hotels, convention center, country club, townhouses, laundry and maintenance facilities, and
miscellaneous structures. Responsible for the engineering involved in the different projects which
included construction of new buildings immediately adjacent to existing structures and construction
over organic peat and bapbottom silts.
Ocean Steps /1500 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL - A 15 -story tower on the beach with underground
parking. This historic oceanfront South Beach site is underlaid by a thick sand deposit over a deep
compressible organic silt and peat layer. Coordinated and supervised the subsurface investigation
' which included uncovering/locating old buried foundations, swimming pools and basements, and
determiningthe amount of fill not compatible with the natural on -site beach -sand deposits, as requested
by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP and formerly DNR). Evaluated the use of a shallow
' mat foundation system and deep high- capacity piles for the tower and prepared a cost comparison of the
two systems. Evaluated construction methods of building the new parking garage basement level
adjacent to the footings of the existing and historic Bancroft Hotel.
The Gables, Coral Gables, FL - Two 16 -story towers and garage on the Intracoastal. Supervised the
inspection of the augercast piles for one of the 13 -story residential towers and parking garage. Involved
in studying if the existing piles could carry additional load when the building later increased to 16
stories. Selected two existing piles to load test to the increased load, and was involved in the testing of
the piles.
' Bentley Hotel, Miami Beach, FL - Involved in developing a method of underpinning this historic South
Beach hotel building and dewatering the site to build one level of underground parking below the
existing building. A second scheme was developed assuming the interior of the building is demolished
while maintaining only the exterior walls. Also coordinated and supervised the subsurface investigation,
including obtaining City permits and clearing City utilities. Prepared a geotechnical report and
foundation recommendations for the above described construction and that of a new adjacent 5 -story
' building.
Highland Beach Seawall and Estates, Highland Beach, FL - Coordinated and supervised the subsurface
' investigation for a 100 -year storm seawall on a beach property along the Atlantic Ocean and luxury
homes. Developed the foundation recommendations and report forthe residences, and assisted in the
design of the 100 -year storm seawall using the Tensar geogrid and geofabrics. Reviewed the
Contractor's submittals and supervised the inspections for the construction of the entire seawall project,
including sheet piles, welding, placement of geogrids, and soil compaction.
Joe Robbie Stadium, North Dade County, FL - The Home of the Miami Dolphins and Florida Marlins is
partially underlain by loose sands and partially by loose sands with a thin limerock layer. Supervised the
' subsurface investigation and assisted in developing the site stabilization for recommending shallow
strip footings for the highly varying column loads. Reported on the subsurface conditions and developed
a comparative foundation cost analysis comparing preloading, vibro- replacement and dynamic
