<br />DeSoto Condominium, Hallandale, FL - Served as an expert witness for the insurance company in the
<br />case where the Condominium Association claimed that failures in the Franki pile foundations was
<br />actually caused by sinkholes. Work included review of letters, reports, memos, etc. spanning
<br />approximately 15 years, inspection of overall site and in particular the affected building containing
<br />eighteen, 2 -story townhouses, inspection of two confirmation soil borings, and testifying in court.
<br />Courvoisier Center at Brickell Key, Miami, FL - Designed a retaining wall using the Tensar geofabric,
<br />inspected precast pile installation and evaluated pile driving records for determination of pile
<br />downgrades. Engineering calculations also included determination of 100 -storm wave heights, wave
<br />crest elevations, wave run -up on proposed building, wave forces and pressures on building walls, and
<br />uplift pressures on ground floor slabs.
<br />Hillsboro Inlet, Deerfield Beach, FL - Coordinated and supervised the off -shore subsurface investigation
<br />inspections for the dredging of the inlet. The off -shore borings included Standard Penetration Tests, core
<br />drilling, and gradation tests in the upper fill. The boring locations were in unprotected, tidal areas of the
<br />Atlantic Ocean.
<br />Country Club Estates, Aventura (North Miami Beach), FL - Coordinated and supervised the subsurface
<br />investigation of this 12 -acre single family golf club community. Recommended preloading the site to
<br />precompress the underlying organic soils (silt and peat) for construction of shallow foundations
<br />(footings) in lieu of more costly pile foundations for the two story residences. Developed site preparation
<br />procedures and specifications for site stripping, placement of compacted fill, and construction and
<br />monitoring of the preloads. Evaluated as -built preload surveys and monitoring data for preload removal.
<br />Aventura Z12 /Lawn Site, North Miami Beach ( Aventura), FL - Home of Border's Bookstore, Linens and
<br />Things, and Chili's Bar and Grill. Coordinated and oversaw the subsurface investigation for construction
<br />of the above mentioned buildings and on -grade parking. Prepared the geotechnical report with
<br />foundation recommendations, the site preparation procedures for the shallow foundation construction
<br />over organic silty sands, and the site preparation report. Coordinated, reviewed, supervised and
<br />reported the subgrade footing and slab, and utility backfill inspections and testing operations.
<br />' Seawall at The Waterways, Aventura, FL - A seawall under disrepair. Reviewed seawall design and
<br />drawings, and made inspections to determine the necessary repairs and assisted in preparation of the
<br />specifications for the repair work. Assisted in the underwater inspection and cross - sectional soundings
<br />' of another section of the seawall.
<br />Golden Beach Utilities, Golden Beach, FL - Evaluated the cause of settlement of recently installed
<br />utilities and the correctness of the project construction specifications. The man -made islands of Golden
<br />' Beach are underlain by thick deposits of organic silts with some peat.
<br />Bahia Mar Seawall and Made -Land, Fort Lauderdale, FL - Design a concrete seawall and deadmen for
<br />new land made on an existing marina. Supervised all of the construction aspects of the project,
<br />' including fill placement, compaction, and testing, pile, panel and deadmen installation, concrete pile
<br />fabrication and pile steel tendon stressing. Reviewed the prestressing, calculations, and all
<br />subcontractor submittals.
<br />' Shoppes at The Waterways, Aventura, FL - One and two -story shopping center over peat. Evaluated
<br />the subsurface conditions to recommend and design the preload heights of the buildings and site areas.
