<br />~ <br /> <br />C) <br /> <br />Q <br /> <br />Recovery of copper and other metals: Copper wire and other metals may be separated and <br />profitably recycled into new wires, signs, and light-duty structures, as was done by Florida <br />Power and Light after Hurricane Andrew. <br /> <br />Production of biofuels for distributed use: The organic fraction of the debris stream may be <br />pulverized and fashioned into high-BTU pellets, or anaerobically digested into natural gas. The <br />production and sale of refuse-derived energy is economically rewarded because renewable <br />energy credits may be sold along with the energy produced. While this may involve an out-of- <br />state company with significant experience in this area, the Subcommittee is mindful that a local <br />project developer should remain involved. <br /> <br />In response to past events and contracts, such as the removal of vehicles from Southeaster <br />Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina or the removal ice storm.
