<br />"Specimen" shall conform to the standard for "Florida Fancy" per the State of <br />Florida, Department of Agriculture. <br /> <br />D. Pruning: <br /> <br />1. Plants shall not be pruned prior to delivery except as authorized by the <br />Consultant. <br /> <br />2. Plants shall have been transplanted or root pruned at least once in the three <br />years prior to contract date. <br /> <br />3. Immediately upon selection by the Contractor and acceptance by the Consultant, <br />all major trees shall be completely root pruned at the nursery site and held in <br />that condition for a period of 45 - 60 days. Plants shall not be further dug or <br />transported without acceptance of Consultant. <br /> <br />4. If the Contractor wishes to strip the foliage of certain species prior to <br />transplanting, removal of not more than one-half of foliage shall be conducted at <br />time of root pruning. In this event the plant shall fully conform to this specifica- <br />tion at the time of planting and review for acceptance. <br /> <br />E. "Medjool" Date Palms <br /> <br />1. Phoenix Dactylifera "Medjool", 11 foot clear trunk, 8 foot clear wood. Clear trunk <br />shall be measured from the lowest live green frond to ground level and clear <br />wood shall be measured from the bottom of the "Pineapple" to ground level. <br />Both measurements must be met in order to satisfy this requirement. <br /> <br />a. Each palm shall have a minimum caliper of 20 inches and shall not vary <br />in caliper by more than two inches at any point along the trunk. <br />b. All palms must meet or exceed all of the requirements of Florida Fancy <br />as defined in the Florida Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants <br />published by the Florida Dept. of Agriculture. <br />c. Canopies to be full and green at the time of arrival at the job site with a <br />minimum spread at the installation of 12 feet. <br />d. Mechanical scars into the trunks of the palms will disqualify this material <br />as Florida #1 and will therefore be cause for rejection on site. <br />e. The Deglett Noor sub-variety is not an acceptable alternate and will not <br />be accepted for this installation. <br />f. The Contractor is responsible for obtaining from the Date palm supplier a <br />signed and notarized certificate indicating the genus, species, and sub- <br />variety of the palms he intends to deliver to the project site. This <br />certification is to be submitted to the Consultant, for approval, prior to <br />delivery of any Date Palms to the project site. <br />g. Submit photographs for review and acceptance by Consultant prior to <br />delivery. <br /> <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.01 EXISTING CONDITIONS <br /> <br />A.
