BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)

Manatee Public Beach (2016), Manatee County, Florida
Program Description:
Since 1989, the staff of APTIM have been the coastal consultant to Manatee County. We have produced and maintained
a comprehensive beach management plan for the County and have continually provided engineering and biological
services for the County’s coastal program, including: project design, geotechnical investigations, environmental studies,
hardbottom monitoring, State and Federal permitting, surveying services, and construction administration required to
build the County’s coastal projects. Our history with Manatee County is an example of our dedication to providing a
wealth of technical and program management services that benefit our clients.
Project Description:
Coquina Beach is located at the south end of Anna Maria Island, a 7.5 mile long barrier island located immediately south
of Tampa Bay. The beach renourishment of Coquina Beach was constructed by Manatee County in March 2014. The
2014 project included the placement of a total of about 332,200 cubic yards of sand along approximately 1.5 miles to
repair damages from Tropical Storm Debby and re‐fill the beach template to full capacity. The sand was obtained from
off of the northern end of Anna Maria Island within the ebb tidal shoal complex of Passage Key Inlet.
The federally authorized Central Beach project area, located immediately north of Coquina Beach, was nourished
between December 2013 and March 2014. Coquina Beach was not a part of the Central Beach Renourishment Program
and did not qualify for Federal funding. In order to renourish Coquina Beach, APTIM worked to "piggy‐back" the Coquina
Beach project onto the Federal project, saving Manatee County millions of dollars in mobilization/demobilization costs to
nourish Coquina Beach.
