BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
Since 1989, APTIM’s team of professionals has provided a
full range of engineering, geotechnical, environmental,
coastal modeling, coastal structures design, permitting,
construction assistance, funding acquisition, physical
monitoring and surveying services to the City of Sarasota
resulting in the construction of five beach nourishment
projects on Lido Key, Florida. The City’s beach
preservation program has been highly successful in
restoring and maintaining the popular recreational beach
of Lido Key, providing storm protection to the beach road
(Ben Franklin Drive), and protection to upland structures.
In 2009 and 2015, Lido Key Beach Renourishment
Projects were constructed as FEMA funded projects since
they repaired storm damages to a previously engineered
(non‐federal) beach renourishment project. APTIM
prepared a storm loss analyses in order for the City to obtain FEMA funding associated with the storm damages to the
beach. APTIM assisted the City in applying for time extensions and minor modification to the existing FDEP and USACE
permits, which allowed the project to be constructed with the existing permits. We also provided the City with oversight
and support during construction and assistance with the post‐construction permit requirements. The 2009 project won
the ASBPA Best Restored Beach Award.
An inlet management study developed by APTIM allowed for the use of New Pass ebb shoal as the sediment source.
APTIM conducted Delft3D numerical modeling to determine the coastal effects of excavating sediment from New Pass.
APTIM has also provided in‐kind services that enabled the USACE to re‐establish Lido Key as a federal project and to
develop a federally authorized and funded shore protection project, which will include fill placement and coastal
structures. We are assisting the City with the permitting and coordination for the federal project that will renouish Lido
Key with Big Sarasota Pass as the proposed borrow source. The project includes the construction of two groins at the
south end of the island. The City served as a local sponsor and assisted the USACE by providing engineering,
geotechnical, benthic investigation and permit application services provided by APTIM, including contributions to the
Feasibility Study and project development.
APTIM has assisted the City with post‐Hermine (2016) damage assessments and FEMA coordination to seek funding to
repair damages. APTIM is currently assisting the City with similar services for impacts caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017.
25.
