BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
Project Descriptions:
APTIM has provided various coastal and marine engineering services for the City of Deerfield Beach since 2005 and is
currently assisting the City with the development and implementation of their coastal and waterway program. The City’s
waterfront presents many unique challenges, which require attention during design and permitting to avoid impacts to
the environment while maintaining project intent and benefit. The following provides summaries of current and previous
projects APTIM is implementing or has completed for the City.
Storm Berm Nourishment Project
Since 2016, our team of coastal engineers has been involved with the preliminary design and permitting of a storm berm
nourishment project for the City. The project included topographic beach surveys along the entire City shoreline to
support the preliminary design, which included a varying design template to restore the dune and beach berm. Sand
samples were collected and analyzed by our in‐house geologists. A Coastal Construction Control Line permit was
prepared and submitted to the FDEP. The final permit was recently issued and provides the City with a proactive
mechanism to nourish their shoreline before or after a storm.
Hurricane Irma Pier Repair
APTIM performed a structural engineering assessment of the
International Fishing Pier to evaluate damage sustained during
Hurricane Irma. The assessment included both above and
underwater data collection, which was used to provide
recommendations for repair design. APTIM provided structural
engineering design for the repair of the structure. The project is
currently under construction and APTIM is providing construction
administration services.
Artificial Reef Project
APTIM is currently engaged by the City to design and permit the
construction of a recreational artificial reef in the nearshore of the City offshore of SE 2nd Street. The project is based on
the Artificial Reef Feasibility Study we completed in 2010. The project is partially funded with grants from Florida Sea
Grant. APTIM completed a materials assessment of the existing boulder stockpile in Tivoli Park, completed a stability
analysis to optimize the design, and prepared permit applications for Broward County, FDEP, and the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers. The project is currently in permitting with construction expected in late 2018.

APTIM performed a topside assessment of hurricane
damage
