City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida
Marine and Coastal Professional Engineering Consulting Services (CCNA) | RFQ No. 18‐02‐01

Aptim Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc.
42
01C032018D

Vessel Exclusion Zone
APTIM is providing coastal engineering and permitting services for
a vessel exclusion zone. Services include coordination with the
FDEP and USACE to permit a series of buoys along the City
shoreline to create a safe area for public swimming and
snorkeling. The project is ongoing but will include sediment
probes to determine buoy foundation requirements, engineering
design, and preparation of plans and specifications. Construction
is expected to begin in late 2018.
FEMA Coordination Project
The effects of Hurricane Matthew passing off the coast of Florida
resulted in beach erosion along the City’s shoreline. APTIM
completed a post‐Hurricane Matthew storm damage assessment
using City provided topographic beach profile data. Volume losses
were calculated and documentation was submitted to FEMA.
APTIM obtained a fully executed Project Worksheet (PW) for
future project reimbursement.
2008/2009 Dune Restoration Projects
APTIM designed, permitted, and oversaw construction activities of
2 beach nourishment projects in the City. The 2008 and 2009
projects were constructed to address erosion that occurred
during the 2007 tropical storm season. The projects both qualified
for FEMA funding for restoration and placed 5,100 and 7,300
cubic yards of upland sand, respectively, to restore the eroded
beach. The projects were permitted by the FDEP under the CCCL
program, which restricted the fill placement to above the mean
high water line.
Deerfield Canals Hydrographic Survey
APTIM conducted a hydrographic survey of approximately 3.5
linear miles of 16 canals in the City of Deerfield Beach in 2005.
Approximately five longitudinal transects were surveyed through
each of the 16 canals and depths were collected at approximately
5‐foot intervals. The data was analyzed and presented to the City,
which allowed the City to avoid maintenance dredging and
significant capital expenditure.

25.
