BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (include scope size, and cost)
Ardaman & Associates, Inc. was initially retained in the 1990's by the City of West Palm Beach to provide environmental and
geotechnical engineering services for this old yard trash disposal area referred to as the Haverhill Yard Trash Site. Ardaman's initial
involvement consisted of remediating a minor contamination condition at the site, which was followed by conducting a formal
contamination assessment to evaluate the overall condition of the groundwater. In addition, Ardaman was retained to provide both
environmental and geotechnical engineering recommendations for the closure of the facility which included recommendations for the
contraction of the trash piles, excavation of a lake to provide fill material and the covering of the piles and raising the grade of the
property to reduce future development costs.
Ardaman worked with the City of West Palm Beach through the years to provide geotechnical recommendations for various potential
development options for the site until finally a decision was made to use it to house the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals
Spring Training Complex. This ongoing project referred to as Ballpark of the Palm Beaches project has involved the processing of the
trash piles to allow recycling as much materials as possible and using fine processed screened material consisting of mostly sands to
support shallow foundation for the structures. Ardaman provided subsurface exploration and geotechnical engineering services during
the design phase of the project and is providing quality control services with regards to the processing of the trash and removal of
objectionable materials from building areas, the placement of fill and trench backfill, quality of construction materials, and inspection
of building construction. Work is proceeding at an accelerated time frame to allow completing the project in time for the 2017 baseball
training season.
Fees: $326,000
25.
